2016 College Yearbook

Several other initiatives that you may not be fully aware of include: Learning..... • Assessment of all K-6 students in literacy, numeracy and formation – we need to identify where each student is at so that we can personalise their learning. • K-10 Writing Continuum – All students from K-10 have been identified on the writing continuum and this will allow staff and students to map both their short and long term growth. • Student Led Conferences – All students K-12 are now involved in professional conversations about their learning. The students should own their learning. • Stage 3 Apple program – All students in Years 5&6 now utilise technology to enhance their learning. • STEAM-We are fortunate to have outstanding technology both hardware and software, allowing students to be actively engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematic initiatives (coding/robot). • Flipped Learning – Year 12 students now engage in Flipped learning in which students undertake low level content learning at home and the higher level work at school with their peers and teachers. • Social Skills program in K-6. • Learning and Performance program implemented into 7-12 that links learning and well-being. • Student involvement in Youth Festival and World Youth Day. • Year 12 students are being individually coached by staff. Changes to Learning Environments..... • More than $1.5 million has so far been spent on our learning environments. • Teachers – No teacher works in isolation, we now have teams of teachers linked to students. • Environments have been enhanced with new furniture and technologies to enhance collaboration and connectivity. • New Stage 3 area – Sustainable building for Stage 3 incorporating the most up to date technologies and furniture, Touch screen table, Apple TV, etc. • Technology – Google Classroom – Students fromYear 2 -12 are now linked to their teachers by Google Classroom. Every lesson fromYear 7-12 is on Google Classroom – therefore learning can take place at any time and any place. • Playground/Sport – we have invested in the primary school playground, new primary and secondary basketball and volleyball courts, posts for football and rugby league. • New additional space for Kindergarten. • New Bus Shelter. Partnerships..... • This year we have hosted visitors from more than 65 schools and 300 staff from across NSW and Australia, including public, Catholic, independent schools and representatives from BOSTES and the Department of Education. • We have developed partnerships with Telstra, Apple, Teachers Mutual Bank, Atomi, Australian Growth Coaching and BFX Furniture. Results..... • Improved HSC results: 2015 Subjects above State Average 25% improvement; Band 6s 50% improvement. • Contemporary Frameworks developed for learning, wellbeing and Religious Education and Evangelisation. • Improved engagement in student participation in lessons – 90% of Year 7-12 students say they are learning better this year. • Improved attendance rates – up by close to 4% in the secondary. • All lessons now collaboratively planned and implemented. • All lessons 7-12 on Goggle Classroom. • Significantly improved NAPLAN results – our growth rates are particularly pleasing. • Increased number of students applying for College leadership positions. • Less student management issues. • Increased enrolments – largest Kindergarten and Year 7 cohorts in 2017. Most importantly we know we are still developing and will continue to improve. New wine in new skins! If you are going to build a new school, you build a new-new school, not a new-old school!!! Thank you for choosing our Catholic Learning Community to educate your child. Together we can make a difference......
