2016 Principal's Post April Edition
APRIL 2016 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Australia is a relatively young country, who gather on the 25th April to commemorate the many ladies and men who have come before us, so that we have life and can live it to the full.
Our community gathers each year at Riverstone to celebrate Anzac Day at the Dawn Service. It is always a privilege to see the John XXIII Senior Choir sing and this year, St Mark’s student, Keeden Hendriks recited a poem with distinction. These students, along with our Junior and Senior College Leaders who laid wreaths at the Cenotaph, are fine examples of the many quality students that we have within our learning community. The first day back in Term 2, saw us gather to commemorate the Anzacs. Both our primary and secondary ceremonies were superb. Performing Arts students shared an emotional piece on the challenges of war on the young soldiers and their families. Our students then listened intently to Squadron Leader Wayne Bayliss and Wing Commander Matt Hetherington tell of their experiences as members of the RAAF. We are so lucky to have such quality men in our community.
We challenge our students to be like the Anzacs:
to serve; to stand up for what they believe; to make a difference in their world; and to look after their mates.
The simple things in life are often the best!!!
The Gospel message from John 13:31-35 last weekend was quite simple: ‘I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you.......’ What great examples are our service men and women of this Gospel message in the roles they play in both humanitarian work across the world and protecting our freedom as Australians.
